Independence and Housing

Home

Welcome to PHARA

Hello and welcome to PHARA Community Services. As part of North Bay and area communities since 1975, PHARA is proud to continue our dedication with providing services that promote independence and opportunities for housing.

PHARA provides services in both official languages to people with disabilities as well as housing opportunities for those with low or moderate incomes.

Our dedicated team from volunteers, to staff, exemplify this commitment. It is our hope for the future to continue to spread the idea for self-directed independence, and continue the good fight for a better quality of life for local residents.

Thank you – Matt Duquette, Board Chair

Housing

Last year, PHARA provided more than 49,500 days of housing for individuals, couples, and families in North Bay. Housing is provided at rent-geared-to-income, affordable rent, and market rent. The locations are 280 Oakwood Avenue, 200 Oakwood Avenue, and 122 Massey Drive in North Bay.

Assistive Devices Program

The Assistive Devices Program (formerly the Loan Out Cupboard) operates out of PHARA’s Westwind Apartment building at 280 Oakwood Avenue in North Bay. The programs provides assistive and mobility devices at no charge for a period of up to 90 days. During the past year there was a massive increase in use.

The program works by diverting non-electrical accessibility equipment such as rollators and walkers from the landfill. PHARA was pleased to be able to be included in the North Bay waste calendar to recognize this positive environmental contribution. All useable equipment donations and monetary donations receive a tax receipt.

Services

PHARA provided health care services in the communities and surrounding areas of North Bay, West Nipissing, Thessalon, Thessalon First Nation, Iron Bridge and Bruce Mines, within the Nipissing and Algoma regions.

PHARA supports independent living.

Why is home and community support important?

A strong home and community support sector is the foundation of a sustainable health system.

Home care and community support services allow people to safely meet their unique needs, be more independent and resilient, and live the way they want to live, for longer. These cost-effective services reduce the need for more expensive hospital care, emergency room visits, or long-term care. They benefit individual clients, their caregivers, and the health care system as a whole. PHARA is proud to be an important part of the home and community support sector.
